TAFT, CA – On Thursday, September 26, our Taft College women's golf team competed at Wildhorse Golf Club in Davis, California. The weather was perfect for playing golf and the course was in excellent condition. This was the fifth conference tournament the Taft Cougars have played in; however, this one was a "neutral site" tournament where there were eight teams playing instead of three. The schools that were represented in this tournament were Taft, Sacramento City, Reedley College, Napa Valley College, Modesto College, Sierra College, Fresno City College, and San Joaquin Delta College. All players in this tournament were on fire so now let's recap on the scores!
The Taft Cougars are keeping up with these schools and improving every single time they come out to play. Leading the way for Taft College was Raylene Hernandez with a score of 95. Felicia Contreras was not too far behind shooting a 98. Kara Gonzales shot a 102 and Bella Carson finished with a score of 127.
Sacramento City came in strong with a team score of 314. Madi Paulsen shot a 76, Ashraya Vang and Gabriella DiStefano both shot a 109, Tegan Syverson shot an 80, Samantha Tom with a 98, and Zoey Christy shot a 100. A very impressive round for the Panthers.
Closely following Sacramento, with a team score of 318, were the Reedley Tigers. Ethel Asequiz shot a 75, Maya Promwongsa close behind with a 77, Jacie Johnson shot an 80, Miya Zolkoske shot an 86, Kennedy Sever shot a 90, and Rylie Jelleschitz shot a 99. A great round for Reedley College.
Modesto College had a team score of 326. Emily Cogswell took the lead for the team shooting a 77, Jordan Williams shot an 81, Lucy Allbaugh, Holley Reese, and Aaliyah Martinez all shot an 84, and Monet Sayadian rounded out their score with a 90. What a day for MJC.
Napa Valley had a team score of 368. Leading the team, Jill Obelleiro shot an 81, Libby Webb shot a 92, Ping Yang shot a 96, Hazel Zastrow shot a 99, and Hanna Ruggles shot a 104. Great golf from Napa Valley College.
Right behind Napa Valley was Delta College with a team score of 369. Alyssa Quilao shot an 81, Viv Rojas shot an 84, Sophie Juarez shot a 97, Savanna Carte shot a 107, and Emalyne Lundbom shot a 108. A very nice round from Napa.
From Sierra College, Kiley Menne shot an 87, Jayden Wharff a 96, Maricela Santana shot a 108, and Danika Rooker shot a 126.
Finally, Fresno City College had two scores of a 92 from Camille Salmeron and a 100 from Jillian Thor.
All of these ladies represented their schools well at this golf match and without a doubt all of them keep improving. We are looking forward to the upcoming matches and can't wait to see what all happens as these athletes prepare for state.
