TAFT, CA – In an intense playoff opener, Taft College battled the College of the Sequoias on Tuesday, November 20, in a closely contested match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The game started with Taft pressing forward, creating several opportunities, but Sequoias quickly responded with a series of dangerous attacks. Despite the early pressure from both sides, the first half ended in a 0-0 deadlock.
As the second half unfolded, both teams came out more aggressive, knowing the stakes were high. Sequoias came close in the 57th minute, but goalkeeper Brian Tufino made key saves to keep his team in the game.
Taft's offense came to life in the 73rd minute when Sebastian Bueno sent a dangerous ball into the box, where Abraham Diaz latched onto it and volleyed the ball into the bottom right corner, giving Taft a crucial 1-0 lead.
The team held strong against a relentless Sequoias attack, managing to defend well and preserve the lead until the final whistle. With the win, Taft College advances to the next round of the playoffs, securing a hard-fought victory and a spot in the next match against Folsom Lake College on Saturday, November 23rd.
