TAFT, CA – Basketball teams have programs that either favor offense or defense, or both. To have a balanced attack, Taft College Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. recruits it all. "In order to have an overall successful and comprehensive program, recruiting quality student-athletes in all aspects is a must," said Coach Lagmay. Lagmay continued, "We are confident in who we have coming in as our next defensive stopper. Her name is Faith Wilson. When you align her with who we already have compiled as a team, it becomes a very scary situation for our competitors. Faith doesn't necessarily have outstanding stats or score much. She may not even really care about scoring, but her defense is something she takes very seriously. Cougar Nation is glad to have her in a black and gold jersey."
Faith Wilson, a 5'4" guard from Bloomingdale High School in Valrico, Florida, is considered a top-notch defensive player. Under Head Girls' Coach Joel Bower, Wilson was a 4-year member of the varsity team and is the winningest player in school history. She was a part of 96 wins in her 4 years. Ranked #30 in the state of Florida Girls' Basketball competing in the 6A division, Bloomingdale won the Western Conference Championship (county championship), won its third consecutive district region championship title, and were state runners up for the first time in school history.
Coach Bower expressed his comments, "We are very excited that Faith has committed to continuing her academic and athletic career at Taft College. She is competitive and extremely hard-working. Faith is a high character young lady and one of the best teammates I have ever coached!"
Wilson shared her comments as well, "I chose Taft College because I can see how good Coach Romeo is and how much he cares about getting his athletes to the next level. I know he will push me and help me be better in my game and also be a better person as well."
