TAFT, CA - Last weekend, the Taft College Lady Cougars Golf team competed at Regionals in Davis, California. It was a two-day tournament at a very difficult golf course called Wildhorse Golf Club. The team had played there once before but it had been a while since they had last played there. They experienced some very tough weather conditions, but they powered through and excelled.
On Sunday, November 10, they had an early tee-time at 8:00 am where they played the first 18 holes of the tournament. Felicia Contreras had an amazing round and shot a 94. Kara Gonzales struggled during her round shooting a 122. It was a long day of golf, but the ladies pushed through.
On the next day, Monday November 11, while everyone had a day off from school, Contreras and Gonzales were up bright and early for their second 8:00 am tee-time. Not only was it an early start, but it was also cold and rainy almost all day long. They played in the rain and wind which made the conditions of the course much harder than the day before, but through all of that, they persevered. Felicia shot a 100 and Kara shaved off 14 strokes from her score the day before shooting a 108.
Big congratulations to Felicia Contreras with a combined score of 194 sending her to compete individually at State! She will be playing on Sunday, November 17 and Monday, November 18 at Monarch Dunes Golf Club in Nipomo, California.
