TAFT, CA – The Taft College Women's Soccer Team spent some time in the city of Ventura bonding. Head Women's Soccer Coach Lyle Martin, Jr. stated, "I'm always looking for opportunities to broaden our players' horizons both on and off the field. Our recent trip to California Lutheran University and a professional soccer game hosted by Ventura County FC was just that, an eye-opening experience that I believe has inspired our team immensely."
The day kicked off with a mini campus tour at Cal Lutheran University, where the team got to see what campus life is like and the academic opportunities that could be part of their future. This was a great segue into the main event of the evening, a professional soccer match featuring Real Salt Lake II, hosted by Ventura County FC. The purpose of the trip was multifaceted; not only did it serve as a chance for team bonding and camaraderie, but it also provided a firsthand look at the level of play and professionalism at higher levels of the sport.
The game itself was a thrilling watch, and it gave the players a clearer vision of where their
dedication to academics and athletics could potentially lead them. The atmosphere was electric, and the atmosphere in the stands was incredible as we the team all cheered and absorbed every moment of the game together.
Coach Martin said, "One of the highlights of the night was introducing our team to Cobi Jones, an icon in soccer. The first player I watched as a youth and had the privilege of sharing the field with. His presence and words of encouragement to our team were truly motivating. His journey through soccer resonates as a testament to what perseverance and hard work can achieve."
The gracious hosts, Ventura County FC, made sure the visit was memorable from start to finish. The hospitality and the organized events around the game were impeccable, making the evening not just a fun outing, but a profound learning experience for everyone involved.
Coach Martin lastly stated, "As we look forward to the season ahead, this outing will surely be marked as a cornerstone for our team's unity and determination. I am profoundly thankful to Ventura County FC for their invitation and for providing such an invaluable experience for our team. Here's to a great season ahead, fueled by the inspiration and lessons learned from one unforgettable night."
