TAFT, CA – The Taft College Cougars Baseball team played College of the Sequoias for game 2 of the series after taking a win last Tuesday. The bats were quiet on both ends for the first 2 innings until COS put 1 on the board putting them in the lead 1-0. Taft would then respond in the 6th when Roman Roberts got things started with a single to score Gaku Yamamoto. Taft then chipped in 2 more runs to make it 3-1.
Sequoias fought back in the 7th, tying the game 3-3. The game remained tied until extra innings. Going into the bottom of the 10th, the score was 4-3 being in favor of COS. Ty Moore hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Odnal advancing Karsen Spradling to third base tying it 4-4. Manny Esparza, stepping up to the plate, rips a ball through the infield scoring Spradling to claim a 5-4 victory.
Esparza was in high spirits stating, "I was feeling confident and knew I was going to get a pitch to hit in the 3-1 count." Julian Orosco, Chase Phillips, and Caleb Garvin all contributed on the mound for a combined 1 earned run being a key part in Taft's win.
