TAFT, CA - On Friday, November 1, the Taft College Men's Soccer entered the match against Clovis College with high expectations, determined to secure three points and finish the week strong.
Throughout the first half, they consistently pressured the Clovis defense, but both teams went into halftime locked in a scoreless draw. In the second half, Taft continued to intensify their attack, showcasing brilliant ball movement that eventually led to a pivotal moment in the match. In the 70th minute, Vladimir Gordillo earned a penalty for Taft after being fouled inside the box. Lisandro Ceja stepped up to convert the penalty, putting Taft ahead 1-0. Clovis responded by applying pressure to test Taft's defense, but the team held firm, highlighted by a crucial save from goalkeeper Rommel in the 83rd minute.
With their clean sheet intact, Taft secured the 1-0 victory and is now focused on their upcoming game against College of the Sequoias. Taft Men's Soccer is currently ranked #19 in the state and stand in first place of the Central Valley Conference.
The Cougars will play Sequoias on their turf on Tuesday, November 5.
