TAFT, CA – Taft College Cougars Baseball played Los Angeles Mission College this past Monday for an out of conference game.
Ryden Walker took the mound to start for the Cougars. LA Mission struck first in the opening frame with some aggressive baserunning giving them the 1-0 lead. Taft quickly responded at the bottom of the inning as Aidan Otano's RBI single brought home Ty Moore, tying the game 1-1.
Taft took the lead in the fourth when Jarameel Brisueno singled, and Karson Spradling advanced to third before scoring on an error, making it 2-1. The game remained the same until the seventh inning LA Mission fought back, chipping in a run to tie the game at 2.
In the top of the ninth, Griffin Garcia would come in relief. With runners on first and second and 2 outs and tension between the two teams, Garcia gets the ground ball to Odnal Riveria who throws a runner out at first to get out of the inning giving the offense a chance to walk it off.
With a runner on third Spradling steps up to the plate and hits a ball up the middle to bring home Riviera, walking it off and sealing Taft's 3-2 victory. Garcia would receive the win while Walker had an outstanding performance going 8 innings with only 2 runs allowed.
Taft plays Compton College for another out of conference game in Taft on Thursday, March 20.
