Freshman Jordan Eldred turned in a strong starting pitching performance allowing one unearned run over six innings but Taft College couldn't hold off visiting Barstow Community College and fell 3-2 on Tuesday.
The Cougars are still in search of their first win of the 2020 season after falling to 0-4.
A first-inning Taft error led to the lone run Eldred allowed in the top of the first inning. He went on to retire the next six batters he faced and would allow four hits while striking out three.
Down 1-0, Taft tied up the game in the third thanks to a Buster Hardman RBI-single. The Cougars pulled ahead in the sixth, taking a 2-1 lead when Chris Ortega's bases-loaded ground out drove in Greyson Barrett.
But Barstow got a run in the seventh to tie it and scored the eventual game-winner in the ninth.
The Cougars will look to snap their losing streak on Thursday (Jan. 30) when they host Allan Hancock College in a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
