Taft Women’s Soccer 2024 Season Recap
TAFT, CA – The 2024 season was a positive year for the Lady Cougars Soccer Team, marking significant progress and setting a strong foundation for the future. Closing out Coach Lyle Martin Jr's second year in the program, achieved were several accomplishments that highlight the dedication and growth of the team.
Taft Women's Soccer finished the season with a 6-11-3 record, an improvement from the previous year. They reached the playoffs, advancing to the first round of the 3C2A of the NorCal Regionals before losing out to West Valley College.
Individual honors include sophomores Stephany Castillo and Melanie Mejia for First Team All-Conference in the Central Valley. Second Team All-Conference were freshmen Ka'iulani Nishigaya and Hayley Smith.
The program's growth significantly improved their team statistics from the previous season. There was demonstrated exceptional player development, both individually and as a team.
This season was about more than just numbers. It was about the transformation the team saw in their players. They worked hard, developed their skills, and grew into a team capable of competing at a higher level. "Watching their determination and willingness to improve was a joy as a coach, and I couldn't be prouder of how they represented our program on and off the field," said Coach Martin.
With many players returning for the fall, excitement more than ever lies ahead. The pieces are in place, and with continued hard work, there is confidence that next season will reach even greater heights.
Coach Martin continued to say, "Thank you to everyone who supported the Lady Cougars this year: players, staff, and fans alike. This season was a success because of the effort and heart poured into it, and we can't wait to build on it next year."
