TAFT, CA – This past weekend, November 17 and November 18, Felicia Contreras represented Taft College at the California Community College Athletic Association State women's golf match. The match was held at Monarch Dunes in Arroyo Grande, which is a very challenging course due to many hazards: water, wind chills, pin placements and hills.
On Sunday morning, Felicia had an early start with a 7:30 tee-time. She had to battle the cold, coastal weather as well as the hilly conditions of the course. After a long day of golf, she shot a 103.
The following Monday morning, she started her round at 10:00 am. Monday's match went much better and her golf game was fantastic. After another long day, she shot a 98.
Out of all the individual scores, she got 10th place out of 18 players. Felicia represented Cougar Country well. This is her first time making it to the state finals, as she did not qualify last season.
Contreras commented on her last season as a Cougar, "Going to state meant a lot to me because this was my last year to go. The first day I struggled, but the second day went much better. Leading up to state, I was extremely nervous and excited, but I had many people supporting me the whole way through. Overall throughout the season, I was happy that I could see myself improving and I could see it in my scores."
Head Women's Golf Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. shared his remarks, "Taft College and the golf program are so proud of all her accomplishments. As the golf season comes to an end, we are proud of all the Lady Cougar golfers and the season they had this year. We can't wait for what next season has in store."
