TAFT, CA – Taft College Basketball added their 6th win of the season defeating Las Positas College 81-59 in a non-conference matchup last Wednesday.
Taft has a current record of 6-3 and will look to add to the win column when they face Los Medanos Saturday, December 7 at 4:00 pm.
The Cougars outscored Los Positas in every quarter but the fourth. However, that's when TC Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. cleared the bench allowing for every player to see significant minutes.
Four Cougars scored in double figures. Freshman sensation Madyn Kassatly led the game with 28 points, along with 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and shot 90% (8-9) from the foul line. Off the bench was Alyah Blackwater collecting a double double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Amaya Payne also had a double double of 13 points and 13 rebounds. For her first start of the season, freshman Faith Wilson contributed 12 points and 2 steals.
The black and gold outrebounded the visiting Hawks 47-42, forced 17 turnovers, while converting 22 points from turnovers, and scoring 21 points in transition. Taft also had their way in the paint outscoring Los Medanos 52-28, while edging the Mustangs in second chance points (22-20), assists (12-9), deflections (16-5) and blocks (4-2).
Taft will host the next four home games starting with Los Medanos on Saturday, December 7 at 4:00 pm, Barstow College on Monday, December 9 at 6:00 pm, and Copper Mountain College on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00 pm.
