TAFT, CA – It was sweet and sour for the Taft College Lady Cougars Basketball Team as they won one lost one in conference play within a four-day span. They defeated West Hills College Lemoore last Wednesday 66-32 and then got beat by College of the Sequoias 75-57 this past Saturday.

In the West Hills Lemoore defeat, both Amaya Payne and Celicia Enos of Taft College scored a game high 13 points, while Brandy Edwards was perfect from the beyond the arc shooting 4-4, scoring 12 points. Eleven Black and Gold Taft players were able to score.

Taft was not so fortunate in their second matchup against College of the Sequoias, where Taft lost in their first matchup by a mere 9 points. However, this time around, the Lady Giants didn't allow for the game to be that close. Though Taft split two quarters a piece with Sequoias, the Giants had more players in scoring columns than anyone else on the Cougars roster. Celicia Enos was the only player in double figures scoring with 19 points. There were areas where both teams had advantages over each other and somewhat equal, but it was the scoring drought that haunted Taft throughout the game. Sequoias had three players in double figures scoring, and solid scoring throughout the team.

The Cougars are 4-5 in conference play with an overall record of 16-10. They will return to action with their last two games being played at home this Wednesday and Friday.

Wednesday, February 21, will be Taft's first annual Play 4Kay National Women's Basketball Breast Cancer Awareness and Research game campaign against Merced College. There will be tailgate prior to the game hosted by Taft's Association Students Organization (ASO) where they will be serving a limited number of free burritos to those first in attendance. Friday, February will be Sophomore night against Porterville College. Both games will be played at 6:00 pm.
