FINAL STATS

TAFT, CA – In the last game of the season, it wasn't easy for either team to gain their victory. From the start of tipoff, Taft College Women's Basketball commanded the first half winning both quarters, 23-15 and 21-6. However, Porterville College made somewhat of a comeback, winning the last two quarters, but ended up losing to Taft 51-64.

The black and gold Lady Cougars had higher shooting percentages than the Lady Pirates in field goals, 3-point, and free-throw lines. They also led in nine out of eleven positive categories, except points in the paint and rebounding. The Cougars outstanding statistical categories reflected in transition points (16-2), points off turnovers (27-8), deflections (13-3), steals (21-3) and less turnovers (11-25).

Cougars' Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. started all five sophomores, and subbed in his sixth. Coach Lagmay said, "It has always been a tradition of mine for the last 17 years to start my sophomores regardless of their minutes throughout the entire season. We just happened to have 6 solid sophomores on this squad. I am so proud of them, and I am hopeful and confident that they will continue living productive lives. The atmosphere of Cougar Country was so exciting with many in attendance. We appreciate all our fans from the community and campus. I would say it's tough to play in our Al Baldcock Cougars Sports Center. A small gym, but amazing crowds."

Sophomores Celicia Enos and Siera Bradford both scored in double digits. Enos had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Bradford had 10 points,3 steals, and a game high 6 assists. Brandy Edwards pumped in 8 points, along with 3 rebounds and 3 deflections. Zamarehia Heaven also had 8 points with 5 points and a game high 5 steals. Jasmeen Lemons scored 7 points and had 2 steals. Yareli Gomez contributed 2 points and 3 rebounds.

Freshman Alizah Lara led the team with 8 rebounds, along with 9 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Taft ended the season 5-5 in conference play and an 18-10 overall record. They now await to see if they will continue their season in the postseason for the 3C2A Women's Basketball State playoffs.
