Former Players

Nate Gutierrez                                Corban University (OR)                           2023

A 2021 graduate of Selah High School Nate played for long-time head coach Mike Archer. Nate had a Taft College career batting average of .263, with 65 H’s in 209 AB’s, along with 28 career RBI. Nate’s older brother Fabian also played at Taft College.

Landon Riley                                   Rogers State University (OK)                 2023

A 2020 Garces Memorial High School graduate. Landon started out his college baseball career playing at Ohlone College in Fremont. Prior to the 2022-23 season Landon transferred to Taft College and he quickly became a vital part of the Cougars pitching staff. Landon had a 4-game stretch in late 2023 where he was dominating. Landon ended up with a 2-4 record and averaged over 7 K’s for every 9 IP.

Casey Henderson                           Arizona Christian University                  2023

A 2021 graduate of McMinnville High School in Oregon. Casey posted a 1-3 record with 1 save and a 4.95 ERA in 21 total appearances in 2023.  Casey played for Steve Fish with the World Baseball Showcase team during the summer of 2021. During the summer of 2023 Casey played for the Medicine Hats Mavericks of the WCBL.

Jackson Irving                               Oklahoma Panhandle University            2023

A 2021 Stockdale High School graduate. Jackson played his youth baseball for Bobby Maitia of the Bakersfield Baseball Academy. Jackson had an outstanding 5-game stretch at the end of the 2023 season where he had 5 scoreless appearances; pitching 7 innings, allowing only 1 hit while recording a save vs. West Hills College.

Jesus Cruz                                      Emmanuel College (GA)                          2023

Jesus is a 2021 graduate of Springfield High School in Massachusetts. A 2-year starting shortstop for the Cougars, Jesus made 2nd Team All AVC Infielder. During the 2023 season Jesus hit .317, with 2 homeruns, 8 doubles and 25 RBI. He also had a .453 on-base pct., scoring 27 runs and he ranks 3rd all-time in Taft College history with 32 walks.

 Sebastian Cabeza                         Jackson State University (MS)               2023

A 2021 graduate from Kaneland HS in Aurora, Illinois. Sebastian transferred to Taft College from Black Hawk Community College in January 2023 when he became the everyday starting catcher for the Cougars. Sebastian earned 2nd Team All CVC honors. He led the Cougars with 6 home runs, while driving in 26 RBI and 9 doubles. Sebastian also threw out 15 attempted stolen base runners on the season.       

Bill Bonner                                     Oklahoma Panhandle University            2023

Bill is a 2020 graduate from Windsor High School in Windsor, Colorado. A 3-year catcher for the Cougars, Bill had his productive year in 2022 hitting .259 with 6 doubles and a .353 on base percentage.

Joey Loubert                                  CSU Chico                                                2023

A 2021 graduate from Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas where he played for Dave Ming. In his two years as a rotational starter for the Cougars, Joey started 22 games amassing 125 innings, 105 K’s and 8 career wins. Joey also participated in the 2022 Sophomore Fall Showcase Game at Folsom Lake College

Chris Shaffer                                CSU San Bernardino                                 2023

A 2020 graduate from Reno High School where he played for Pete Savage. In his two years as a rotational starter Chris started 23 games, pitching a total of 110 innings, with 114 K’s. Chris also participated in the 2022 Sophomore Fall Showcase Game at Folsom Lake College.

Tyler Vanneste                              CSU San Bernardino                                 2023

A 2021 graduate form Warman High School in Warman Saskatchewan Canada. Tyler was a two-year starting third baseman where he had a career batting average of .338, with 96 hits, 7 home runs, 23 doubles and 41 RBI. Tyler was a 2nd Team All CVC third baseman in 2022 and he participated in the 2022 Sophomore Fall Showcase Game at Folsom Lake College.

Theodore (Theo) Grutas              San Diego Christian College                   2022

A 2019 graduate of Cloverpark High School in Lakewood Washington. Theo a RHP went 1-2 with 25 K’s and an opponent’s batting average of .264 in 19 appearances in 2022.

Blake Logan                                 CSU Dominguez Hills                                2022

A 2020 graduate of Durango High School in Las Vegas where he played for Sam Knapp. Blake was a two-way player but excelled on the mound in 2022. He was a 2nd Team All CVC Pitcher with a 3-2 record and an impressive 2.23 ERA. He had 30 K’s with 9 BB’s and an opponents batting average of .221.

Jordan Phillips                             William Jewel College                              2022

A 2019 graduate from Deer Park High School in Deer Park, Texas. Jordan originally went to Blinn College (2020) and attended Panola College (2021) prior to transferring to TC. Jordan was a 1st team All CVC Outfielder hitting .327 with 53 hits, 16 doubles, 7 home runs, 36 RBI and 14 SB’s.

Andres Garza                               Avila University (Missouri)                             2021

Andres transferred from Porterville College in the fall of 2020 and he made an immediate impact for the Cougars. In over 130 total chances Andres did not make any errors. His defensive prowess earned him the prestigious Rawlings Gold Glove Award for the Pacific Region which covers the entire state of California, Oregon and Washington as the top defensive second baseman on the West Coast. Andres is a graduate from Highland High School where he played for coach Mike Garza.

Luis DeLeon                             Ottawa University (Kansas)                              2021

A two-year starter for the Cougars and a member of the 2019 Taft College team that made the California State Playoffs. Luis was a two-way player who played right field and a left-handed pitcher. Used primarily as a relief pitcher in 2019 and 2020, Luis was a rotational starter for the Cougars in 2021. Luis is a graduate from Greely West High School in Greeley, Colorado. 

Damien Holmes                     Fresno Pacific University                                   2021

A two-starter for the Cougars who transferred to Taft College in 2019 from Reedley College. Damien was selected as a CVC Gold Glove Team. Damien is a graduate from Hanford West High School.

Jackson Van Roekel             Iowa Wesleyan College/York University (NE)    2021

A two-way player for the Cougars who was a steady presence on the mound as a left-handed pitcher and played outfield and first base. His best pitching outing came against Fresno City College where he carved up the Rams for 6+ innings. Unfortunately a broken finger ended his 2021 season. Jackson was a 2019 graduate of Taft Union High School where he played for coach Matt Davis. 

Greyson Barrett                  Texas Wesleyan University                                2020

A power hitting LHH with who had some huge games during the Cougars 2019 state playoff push. In the shortened 2020 season Greyson hit for the cycle in a game vs AVC and later hit 2 home runs against COS. Would have been a “slam dunk” All CVC first baseman had the 2020 season played out. Greyson was a 2018 graduate from Centennial HS in Bakersfield and played for coach Danny Durham.

Lachlan Brear                     Southwestern College (Kansas)                       2020

An athletic and physical outfielder who should excel at the next level. Lachlan primarily played leftfield during the shortened 2020 baseball season. An outstanding student who had a 3.90 GPA while at Taft College. Lachlan grew up in Perth, Australia and played amateur baseball for Boston Red Sox scout Steve Fish.

Ryan Brown                        Missouri Baptist University                              2020

Ryan was a relief pitcher his 2 years at Taft College. Had a great deal of success in 2019 as a reliable hard throwing bullpen arm. He recorded the Save in the 2019 playoff clinching win vs Sequoias. A 2018 graduate from Liberty HS in Bakersfield where he played for Tony Mills.

Nikolas Cortez                    Simpson University (California)                        2020

After redshirting his freshman year at Taft College in 2019 Nikolas became a starting outfielder for the Cougars in 2020. Nikolas has a plus arm and he should have a very good career at the next level. Nikolas was a 2018 graduate from Silverado HS in Las Vegas where he played for former Taft College Cougar Brian Whittaker.

Manny Guzman                 Grambling State University (Louisiana)             2020

A 2-year starting pitcher for the Cougars. Manny was a 2019 All CVC starting pitcher where he was instrumental in helping Taft College make the California State Playoffs in 2019. His most memorable game came in 2019 while pitching 8 shutout innings vs Sequoias. Manny was selected to the 2019 Fall NorCal Sophomore Showcase Game in Sacramento. Manny was a 2018 graduate from Garces Memorial HS in Bakersfield and played for coach Guy Dees.

Buster Hardman                Utah Valley University/Friends University (KS)                                        2020

A 2-year starter for the Cougars and he played a big role in Taft making the 2019 State Playoffs. Buster was a 2019 2nd Team All CVC Infielder while playing 2B and hitting leadoff for the Cougars. Buster was a “grinder” and a team leader during his 2 years at Taft College. Buster is a 2016 graduate from American Fork HS in Utah where he played for coach Jarod Ingersoll. After graduating from high school he then spent 2 years on his LDS mission before coming to Taft College in 2018.

Juan Rodriguez                  Peru State University (Kansas)                         2020

Juan became a reliable bullpen arm his two years at Taft College after redshirting in 2018. Juan is a 2017 graduate from Leadership Christian Academy in Puerto Rico.

Michael Selleck                 Tabor University (Kansas)                                  2020

After transferring from Reedley College in the 2018 season, Michael pitched in some huge games that year as the Cougars made the 2018 state playoffs. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in the Fall of 2018, he redshirted in 2019. Michael worked real hard to become a rotational starter for the Cougars in 2020. Michael is a 2017 graduate from Central HS in Fresno.

Josiah Steen                        Harris Stowe College (Missouri)                       2020

A transfer from Evangel University in Missouri. Josiah became a valuable bullpen arm for the Cougars in 2020 before developing tendinitis and limiting his action until the season shutdown. Josiah was a 2018 home school graduate.

Keegan Vialpando             Metro State University (Colorado)                     2020

Keegan was a 2-year starter for the Cougars and he caught in one of the Cougars state playoff games at Sacramento City College in 2019. Keegan played in the 2020 NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas for the Colorado Cyclones. Keegan was a 2018 graduate from Windsor HS in Windsor, Colorado.

Brady Wilson                      Simpson University (California)                        2020

Primarily a pitcher and catcher his freshman year at Taft College, he then became the Cougars starting 2B in 2020. Brady played collegiate summer ball for the Fort McMurray Giants in the Western Canada Baseball League in 2019. Brady grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

2019                James McCallum                   Saint Leo University (FL)

James McCallum was a first team All NorCal and All CVC first baseman and was voted 2019 team MVP by his teammates. James hit .361 in 2019 and was a sure-handed defensive first baseman. A native of Australia, James played for coach Steve Fish while playing youth baseball in Australia. James also played summer baseball in 2019 for the Weyburn Beavers of the WCBL. 

2019               Javier Ramirez                     Jacksonville State University (AL)

Javier Ramirez was a first team All CVC infielder and hit .343 in 2019. The speedy shortstop was a 2017 high school graduate from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Javier also played the summer of 2019 in Edmonton, Canada for head coach Jordan Blundell of the Edmonton Prospects. 

2019               Andres Rolon                       Cumberland University (KY)

Andres was a 2nd team All CVC outfielder and had an outstanding 2019 season hitting .324 with 9 home runs and 12 doubles. He was a 2017 graduate from the Carlos Beltran Academy in Puerto Rico.

2019               Jake Pearson                       McPherson University (KS)

Jake Pearson was a 2018 fall transfer from Murray State College in Oklahoma and a 2017 graduate from Harrah HS (OK).  Jake hit .277 his sophomore year at Taft College with 5 home runs and 38 runs driven in. 

2019               Wes Hebert                         Nicholls State University (LA) / University of Antelope Valley (CA)

Wes Hebert was a 2018 graduate from Eunice HS in Eunice, Louisiana. In the 2018 season, Wes hit .404 and was a first team All State and All CVC outfielder. He was voted 2018 team MVP by his teammates. His sophomore year in 2019 Wes lead the team in RBIs (43), and tied in home runs (9).

2019               Zach Jones                          CSU Stanislaus 

Zach Jones was a 2-year starting right fielder for the Cougars and a vital part of bringing the Cougars to the postseason in both 2018 and 2019. Zach was a 2017 graduate from Tumwater High School in Olympia, Washington. Zach hit 4 home runs and drove in 24 runs in 2019.

2019               Kenji McCarthy                   University of Antelope Valley (CA)

Kenji was a vital part in helping the Cougars make it to 2018 NorCal playoffs. He was the starting center fielder in 2018 and was voted by his teammates as the 2018 Most Improved Player. A naitive of Guam, and a favorite amongst his teammates, Kenji was one of the hardest working players to ever play at Taft College.

2019              Jade Smoot                         William Jewell College (MO)

A 2015 high school graduate from Pleasant Grove HS in Utah. Jade went on an LDS Mission to Chile from 2015-2016. Jade had an outstanding 2018 season helping lead the Cougars to their first postseason berth in over 25 years. He was a 2nd team All CVC designated hitter in 2018 and led the team with 53 hits and 42 RBI. 

2019             Michael Barker                     Fresno Pacific University (CA)

A 2018 fall transfer from Vanguard University he became an immediate starting pitcher for the Cougars in 2019. Michael was voted by his teammates as the 2019 Cougars Most Outstanding Pitcher. A native of Ridgecrest, CA, Michael played travel baseball for Bobby Maitia of the Bakersfield Baseball Academy. In both 2018 and 2019 Michael pitched in the Alaska Collegiate Baseball League for the Eagle River Chinooks. 

2019             Cassius Shy                         Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

A spring 2018 transfer from Arizona Western College and a 2017 graduate from Rancho High School in Las Vegas. Cassius was selected to the 2018 Fall Sophomore Showcase game in Sacramento.

2018            Bryan Santiago                    University of Jamestowm (ND)

Bryan Santiago was a left-handed relief pitcher in his two years at Taft College. Bryan had a career record of 5-2 for the Cougars while striking out 34 in 38 innings of work. Bryan was also a 2016 graduate of the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico.

2018            Jayce Gardner                     CSU Stanislaus

Jayce was a 2016 graduate from Arbor View High School in Las Vegas. In 2017 Jayce was a 2nd team All CVC shortstop and in 2018 he was selected as a 1st team All CVC third baseman. Jayce had an outstanding 2018 season hitting .362 with 4 home runs and 26 RBI. Jayce was voted by his teammates as the 2018 Cougars team MVP.     

2018           Tait Ludwick                         Mayville State University (ND)

Tait was a 2016 graduate of Durango High School in Las Vegas. During the 2018 season, Tait went 2-3 and had 1 save in 19 innings of work. His most memorable performance came in relief against Mt. San Antonio College as he got the win to help ignite the Cougars hot streak down the stretch.

2018           Dominic Tating                    San Francisco State University

Dominic was a 2016 graduate from Foothill High School in Redding, Ca. In 2017 Dominic was the Cougars starting leftfielder playing in 33 games and hitting .262. In 2018 he was an important part pf the Cougars success, serving as a defensive specialist in their outfield. He recorded the final out of the game in the Cougars playoff win vs Los Medanos College.

2018          Kaivon Kealoha                    Dixie State University (UT)

Kaivon was a 2015 graduate of Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He had a number of dominate pitching performances down the stretch and helped lead the 2018 Cougars to their first postseason appearance in 26 years.  He started and won the Cougars first playoff win in over 30 years, vs Los Medanos College. Kaivon posted a 2.96 ERA in 2018 with 91 strikeouts, in 91.1 innings pitched with 9 wins, 2 saves, and 22 appearances. He was voted as a 2nd Team All CVC Pitcher and he won the Gold Glove Award as the CVC’s best fielding pitcher. He was also the Cougars starting third baseman during his freshman year in 2016. Kaivon was also voted by his teammates as the 2018 Taft College Most Valuable Pitcher.

2018         Alec Olsen                              Post University (CT)

Alec was a 2017 transfer from Phoenix College in Arizona. Alec became a steady sure-handed second baseman for the Cougars. He hit a memorable grand slam home run vs. Los Medanos College in the 2018 Wildcard Game to help the Cougars win their first playoff game in over 30 years. Alec was the only player to play in all 43 games of the 2018 season, sporting a .479 slugging percentage with 7 homeruns, 2 grand slams, 10 doubles, 31 RBI’s, 10 stolen bases and a .261 batting average.


2018        Nick O’Connor                      Hawai’i Pacific University

Nick was a left-handed pitcher from Chaparral High School in Las Vegas. Nick spent most of the 2018 season on the disabled list with arm problems. As a freshman, he had a 2-3 record with a 4.63 ERA and 35 strikeouts. His “back to back” wins against Fresno City College and Ventura College in 2017 were two of his most memorable highlights during his time at Taft College.


2018       Kyle Gaura                            Emmanuel College (GA)

Kyle was a catcher and first baseman for TC. He was a 2016 graduate of Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kyle sported a .398 slugging percentage with 4 homeruns, 4 doubles, 33 hits, 25 RBI’s and a .248 batting average. Kyle also worked 20 walks, and 9 HBP’s to sport a .383 OBP. Kyle also hit a big home run to help power the Cougars in their postseason playoff win vs Los Medanos College on May 1.

2017     Chase Nistor                         Indiana Tech University

Chase pitched 64 innings for the Cougars in the 2017 season; the most on the team. Chase had a 4.92 ERA, sporting 20 total appearances with 10 starts. He was crowned Nor-Cal Pitcher of the week for his complete game victory against Reedley College on April 28th, where he gave up just 1 unearned run. He is a graduate of Martin Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan of Canada, and a transfer from Western Texas College in 2016.

2017     Seth Sorensen                       Indiana Tech University

Seth was the 2017 Team MVP for his 2.49 ERA in 47 innings pitched. Seth earned a 4-1 record with 4 saves out of the bullpen in 23 total appearances his sophomore year to get himself recognized as a 2nd Team All-CVC relief pitcher. His freshman year he tossed 44 innings and had a 4.09 ERA. Seth is a 2014 graduate of Payson High School in Utah.

2017     Luke Lubiniecki                   University of Pikeville (KY)

Luke was an outfielder and second baseman for the Cougars in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Luke sported a .303 batting average with 36 hits and 29 runs scored to be voted the 2nd team All-Conference second baseman in 2016. In 2017, Luke batted .262 with 126 at-bats and 8 stolen bases. He is a graduate of Martin Secondary School in Regina, Saskatchewan of Canada.

2017     Tyson Canfield                                 Sonoma State University (CA)

Tyson pitched for Taft College in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In 2017, Tyson tossed 47.1 innings, struck out 41 batters and had a 4.94 ERA. Tyson is a 2015 graduate of Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, California.

 2017     Brendan Halstrom                University of Pikeville (KY)

Brendan was a designated hitter, catcher and first baseman for the Cougars in 2016 and 2017. His freshman year he batted .333 with 43 hits, 4 home runs and 14 doubles to get himself voted an All-Conference Catcher/ DH. Brendan is a graduate of Pitt Meadows Secondary school in Vancouver, Canada.

2017     Will Moore                           Texas A&M University – Texarkana

Will was a starting and relief pitcher for the Cougars in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In 2016, Will sported an ERA of 2.86 with 21 strikeouts in 34.2 innings pitched. As a sophomore he was voted the Cougars’ most outstanding pitcher and was recognized as a 2nd team All CVC pitcher. He tossed 48.2 innings, struck out 41 batters and had an ERA of 3.88. Will is a 2015 graduate of Taft Union High School.

2017     Travis Turner                       York State University (NE)

Travis played outfield for the Cougars in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. As a freshman he hit .310 with 40 hits and as a sophomore he hit .282 with 42 hits, 8 stolen bases and 24 RBI’s. Travis is a 2014 graduate of Selah High School in Yakima, Washington, and transferred to Taft after Medical red shirting at Yakima Valley College in 2015.

2017     Richard Ortiz                       Grambling State University (LA)

Richard Ortiz batted .321 with 44 hits, 14 doubles, 2 homers and 30 RBI’s as a freshman in 2016 to earn All-Conference catcher. His sophomore year he batted .295 with 9 home runs, 44 hits and 38 RBI’s to get himself selected 1st Team All-State and All-American DH. He was also voted Taft Colleges Most Outstanding Hitter in 2017. The hard hitting catcher and infielder was recruited out of The Puerto Rico Baseball Academy High School (PRBAHS) in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

2016    Ricky Sottile                    The Masters University
Ricky played outfield for the Cougars during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Ricky transferred from Point Loma University in the fall of 2015. He is a 2013 graduate of Bakersfield Christian High School in Bakersfield CA. 

2016    Mathew Rodgers             Young Harris, GA
Matt held a 3.63 ERA with 12 starts as a fresman, and in 2016 he made 24 appearances for the Cougars with a 4.12 ERA. Matt transferred from Saint Mary's College, CA, in the fall of 2015. He is a 2014 gradualte of Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas.

2016    Austin Pendergrass         Texas A&M
Austin was a two year starter in the outfield for the Cougars in 2015 & 2016. He transferred to "Aggieland" in 2016 and was admitted to the Corps of Cadets where he hopes to become an Army officer. While at Texas A&M. he played baseball for the Corps of Cadets. He was an alternate selecton the the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2016. While at Taft College, Austin had a cumulative GPA of 3.95. He is a 2014 graduate of Taft Union High School in Taft CA.

2016    Brett Haney                     Tabor College
Brett pitched out of the bullpen during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Brett sported an opponents's batting average of .182 with 10 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched in 2016. He is a 2013 graduate of Green Valley High School in Henderson NV>

2016    Fabian Gutierrez             William Penn University
Fabian was a 2nd Team All Central Valley Conference shortstop, and made the NorCal Fall Sophomore Showcase in 2015. Fabian hit .351 as a sophomore in 2016. He signed early with Youngstown State in November 2015, but because of a coaching change he decided to attend William Penn University. Fabian is a 2014 graduate of Selah High School in Washington, where he played under head coach, Mike Archer.

2016        Robby Brewster          Missouri Baptist University
Robby was a 2 time All Central Valley Conference starting pitcher during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Robby threw 93 innings, sporting a 7-4 record with a 3.29 ERA while collecting 70 strikeouts, his sophomore year. He is a 2013 graduate of Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas, NV and transferred to Taft College from College of Southern Nevada after 2013.

2016        Shane Kotz                  Simpson University (CA)
Shane pitched for the Cougars in 2011 and made his TC comeback as a pitcher and 1st baseman in 2016. Shane graduated from Stockdale High School in Bakersfield CA in 2010.

2016        Caleb Newman            Bluefield College (VA)
Caleb pitched for the Cougars in 2015 and 2016. He had an ERA of 2.84 with 19 innings pitched his sophomore year. He graduated from South Medford High School, OR in 2014.

2016        Alfred Souza                Simpson University (CA)
Alfred pitched in relief throughout his two year career at Taft College. Alfred racked up a total of 19 appearances his freshman year and limited hitters to just a .244 batting average in his sophomore year. He graduated from Kamehameha High School in Honolulu HI.

2016        Kyle Wedel                   McPherson College (KS)
Kyle played 2nd and 3rd base for the Cougars in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He is a 2013 graduate of Wasco High School in Wasco CA.

2015        Nick Risucci                 California State University East Bay  
Nick made 16 appearances and 24 strikeouts during the 2015 season. He tossed a 1-hitter in 8 innings of work vs Solano College on opening day of 2015. He is a 2013 graduate of Bonanza High School, Las Vegas. During his senior year at Bonanza he beat perennial national power Bishop Gorman High School twice.

2015       Eric Evans                            University of Jamestown

Eric sported the teams lowest ERA at 1.40 and racked up 5 saves in 2015, which is held among the all-time leaders in Taft College baseball history. He was selected as a 2nd team All-CVC relief pitcher. He is a graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Weyburn, SK.

2015      Jeff Gilstrap                           California State University Dominguez Hills

Jeff played 3rd base with a batting average of .273, alongside 7 doubles and 20 RBI’s for the Cougars in 2015. Jeff transferred from Southern Idaho College prior to his sophomore year. Jeff is a 2013 graduate of East HS in Salt Lake City, UT.

2015      Hank Johnson                        Midland University (NE)

Hank pitched in relief during the 2015 season. Hank transferred from College of the Siskiyous prior to the 2015 season. He is a 2012 graduate of West Valley HS in Utah.

2015      Keith Tatum                           Indiana Tech University (IN)

Keith started at catcher and designated hitter for the 2015 season. He finished with a .333 batting average alongside 42 hits, 20 RBI’s and an impressive .430 on base percentage. He earned a selection for 1st team All-CVC. Keith transferred from Ventura College in the fall of 2014. He graduated from Bishop Union High School in Bishop, CA in 2012.

2015     Chris Hopballe                       University of Mobile (AL)

Chris was a 1st baseman and pitcher for the cougars during the 2015 season. He batted .278 with 22 RBI’s, 5 home runs, and an on base percentage of .403. He also had 2 winning starts on the mound. Chris was a 2nd team All-CVC selection for 1st base. Chris transferred from Saddleback College in the fall of 2013. He graduated from Palo Verde High School, NV in 2012.

2015    Bryan Sanchez                        Arts and Science University of Oklahoma (OK)

Bryan pitched in relief both the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Bryan is the younger brother of former Cougar Allan Sanchez. He graduated from Del Carmen HS, in Trujillo Alto, PR in 2012.

2014    Buddy Cooper                          Concordia-Irvine University
Buddy appeared in 22 games in the 2014 season hurling his way to a 1.59 ERA while recording 4 saves on the year.  He was a graduate of Frazier Mountain HS in 2011.

2014    Loren Cutolo                           Oregon Institute of Technology
Loren played 3rd base for the Cougars during the 2013 & 2014 seasons.  At the plate he manufactured 37 hits, 17 RBI’s and hit for a .303 batting average.  Loren was a 2014 2nd team all CVC player and he won the CVC Golden Glove Award in 2014. He was a graduate of Sierra Vista (NV) in 2012.

2014    Dayton Kurian                       William Jessup University
Dayton was a utility player for the Cougars during the 2013 & 2014 seasons. He hit for a .274 batting average alongside 32 hits, and 11 RBI’s.  He finished the year with a .960 fielding percentage.  He was a graduate of Foothill HS (NV) in 2012. 

2014    Kevin Little                            University of Maryland-Baltimore County
Kevin was a pitcher during the 2013 & 2014 seasons leading the Cougars to a 5-4 record with him on the mound.  He marked up a 1.86 ERA through his 12 games started alongside his 48 strikeouts.  He won the 2014 CVC Co-Pitcher of the Year in and was selected as a 2014 1st Team All NorCal Pitcher. He also was a recipient of the 2014 Jockey Club Award.  He graduated from Kern Valley HS in 2012 class.

2014    Matt Moorehead                   Oregon Institute of Technology
Matt doubled as an outfielder and catcher for the Cougars 2013 & 2014 seasons leaving with a 1.000 fielding percentage.  He hit for a .244 batting average with 22 hits and 10 RBI’s.  He was a 2012 graduate of Bakersfield HS.

2014    Travis Tessandori                 University of Mobile (AL)
Travis played outfield for the Cougars during the 2013 & 2014 seasons.  He finished the year with a .285 batting average along with 37 hits and 10 RBI’s.  Travis made the 2nd team All CVC and was a recipient of the CVC Golden Glove team.  He also was a recipient of the 2014 Jockey Club Award. He is a 2012 graduate of Tehachapi HS.

2014    Roman Testani                      University of Mobile (AL)
Roman played 1st base for the Cougars 2013 & 2014 seasons leading the team with a batting average of .376.  He also had 53 hits and 18 RBI’s.  Roman made 2014 1st team All CVC team as a 1B. He was a graduate of Holy Cross Catholic Academy in Ontario, Canada in 2012.

2014    Brandon Van Stone              Hawaii Pacific University
Brandon was a pitcher for the Cougars 2013 & 2014 seasons leading the team with 60 strikeouts, and was teh 2014 Team All Central Valley Conference Pitcher .  He finished the year with a 2.61 ERA through 16 appearances.  He was a graduate of Foothill HS (NV) in 2012.

2014    Scout Villanueva                   Peru State University (NE) 
Scout doubled as a 3rd basemen and catcher for the Cougars 2014 season.  He finished the year with a .265 batting average alongside 27 hits and 15 RBI’s and his 13 doubles finished amongst the all-time leaders in Taft College baseball history. Scout is a 2011 graduate of West HS in Bakersfield.

2013    P.J. Matha                            York University (NE)
P.J. was a right handed pitcher in the 2012-13 seasons for the Cougars.  In 2012 he was voted the team’s most valuable pitcher.  He was a graduate of Rancho High School, Las Vegas in 2011.

2013    Luis Trinidad                           Southern University (LA)
Luis was a starter for both years in his 2 year stint at Taft College. The middle infielder took pride in the way he handled the bat at the plate. Well-respected around campus, Luis took part in ASB and maintained a 4.0 GPA, giving him the honor of Academic All Conference both years. He was a graduate of Puerto Rico Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico.

2013    Matt Gunderson                    Brescia University (KY)
Matt was a strong reliever for the Cougars, sporting a one of the highest team ERA’s, He also excelled in the classroom. Matt was a graduate of Burlington High School in Seattle, Washington.

2013    Joshua Hickle                        California State University Monterey Bay (CA)
Josh was a strong leader in the Taft clubhouse, and had a strong offensive game. The catcher also excelled behind the plate. He was injured for nearly his whole sophomore season before moving on. Josh was a graduate of Independence High School in Bakersfield, CA.

2013    Allan Sanchez                        California State University San Bernardino (CA)
Allan was a three year Cougar, sustaining an injury that made him miss his sophomore season. He returned in his third year and was an impact player, as a starter for the Cougars. Allan was a graduate of Del Carmen High School in Puerto Rico.

2013    Brad Smith                            University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma
Brad was a reliever for the Cougars during his two seasons. He was hard-working on and off of the field. Brad was a graduate of Langley Fundamental High School in Langley, British Columbia.

2013    Michael Vaquera                   University of Pikeville (KY)
Mike was a veteran presence out of the bullpen. He owned closing duties for the Cougars in 2013. He was a good teammate on and off the field.


2012    Sean Arbaut                           Minot State University (ND) 

Sean was two year starter in the program, and also an outstanding defensive third baseman. He was known as a high character player that was well thought of on the Taft College campus. He was an ASB member while at Taft, and was a graduate of Tehachapi High School.

2012    Pierce Belaustegui                 Viterbo University (WI) 
Pierce was a two year starter, who made 1st team all CVC his sophomore year. He was a great student while at Taft College. He was a great offensive presence while at Taft College. He was a graduate of Silverado High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.

2012    Clem Ferrer                           University of Antelope Valley (CA) 
Clem was a two year starter, and played primarily left field for the Cougars. He was an All CVC Golden Glove Outfielder in 2012. He was an excellent bunter with great speed. Clem was a graduate of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy H.S.

2012    Corey Gilligan                       University of Pikeville (KY) 
Corey was a rotation pitcher in his sophomore year. He is a left-handed strike thrower, and also excelled in the classroom. Corey is a graduate from Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada.

2012    Jay Huggins                           New Mexico Highlands University (NM)
Jay was a starter for the Cougars in his sophomore year. He played first and third base. He is originally from British Colombia, where he was an outstanding student as well.

2012    Matt Packer                           University of Miami (OH) 
Matt was a transfer from Chapman University. He was the Cougar starting second baseman in 2012. He was an outstanding student at Taft College maintaining a 4.0 GPA. .Matt was a graduate from Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, California.

2012    Chase Skinner                       San Diego Christian College (CA)
A starter in right field for the Cougars, after transferring from Cerro Coso College. Chase made second team all CVC. He was a graduate of Legacy High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.

2012    Forrest Smith                         Oklahoma City University (OK) 
A two- year starter at first base for the Cougars, had a terrific season until an injury happened ending his season. He was also a really good student at Taft College. Forrest made second team all CVC, and was a graduate of Foothill High School in Bakersfield, CA. 

2011    Austin Christiansen 
             Dixie State University (Utah)
A two-year starter for the Cougars, Austin was a 2011 first team All CVC Utility player as a first baseman and pitcher. He was also selected as an All NorCal Utility player. He was voted by his teammates as the Team MVP in 2011. Austin was also an Academic All American in 2011. Austin graduated from Legacy High School in Las Vegas, NV in 2009.

A member of the Cougars starting rotation during the 2011 season, Matt was also a 2009 graduate from Taft Union High School. 

2011    Jesus Del Rosario                  Azusa Pacific University (CA)/ Rogers State University (OK) / Rockford Aviators
Had a great 2 year career at TC, was a first team All CVC Relief Pitcher in 2010 and a 2nd team member in 2011. In 2010 Jesus set the all-time Taft College record for opponent’s batting average at .152. He was selected to the Fall NorCal All Star Showcase in 2010. He is a graduate of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy High School in 2009. Jesus signed an independent ball contract with the Rockford Aviators in Chicago, IL in 2013.

2011    Braden Keathley                   Christian Brothers University (TN) 
A member of the Cougars starting rotation in both 2010 and 2011, also the team’s starting designated hitter. Selected to the Fall NorCal All Star Showcase in 2010. Was a 2nd team all CVC Pitcher in 2011. Voted by his teammates as the Most Valuable Pitcher in 2011. Braden was a 2009 graduate of Silverado High School in Las Vegas, NV.

2011    Barrett Nielsen                      Northwest Nazarene University (ID) / Colorado State University-Pueblo 
A member of the Cougars pitching staff in 2011. Because of his excellence in the classroom, decided to transfer to Northwest Nazarene for academic reasons. A 2009 graduate of McLurg High School in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, Canada.

2011    Perry Rogan                          Patten University (California)/ University of Antelope Valley (CA)  
A two year starter for the Cougars. Selected in 2011 as a 1st team All CVC Third Baseman and a 2nd team All CVC Third Baseman in 2010. Voted by his teammates as the team Most Valuable Hitter in 2011. A 2009 graduate from East Bakersfield High School.

2011    Larry Valdes                         University of Hawaii-Hilo 
A starter for the Cougars in 2011, playing left field, second base, and pitcher. A valuable addition to the 2011 Cougars after transferring from Mesa College in Arizona. A 2007 graduate from Valley High School in Las Vegas, NV.

2011    Josh Dickey                          Oklahoma City University 
A two-year starter for the Cougars playing both outfield and catcher. Made 2nd Team All Central Valley Conference outfielder in his sophomore year (2011). Holds both the season (18) and career (31) records for hit by pitches. Josh is a 2009 graduate of Centennial High School in Bakersfield.

    Stefan Norman                       Eastern New Mexico University (NM) 
Stefan started at left field and DH for the Cougars. He was a graduate of Silverado High School in Las Vegas, NV. He was a very good student as well.


2010         Anthony Rodriguez           Azusa Pacific University (CA)

An All-CVC shortstop his sophomore year at Taft College. This switch hitting shortstop hit .384 and stole 23 bases in 26 attempts. His freshman year was voted to the CVC "Golden Glove" team. A 2008 graduate of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy High School in Caguas, Puerto Rico. 

2010             Rex Blaylock              CSU-East Bay
His sophomore year at Taft College he hit .338, stole 8 bases, and only committed one error while playing the outfield. Rex was a visible student-athlete during his time at Taft College serving as an ASB Activities Officer his sophomore year. A 2008 graduate of Riverton High School in Riverton, Utah.



2009             Shawn Wilyman              CSU-Northridge

A two-year starting pitcher for the Cougars, this Regina, Saskatchewan native was a second team all conference pitcher in 2009. He made the Nor Cal All Star team in fall 2008. Second most in season strike outs at Taft College with 89 in 2009. Compiled an accumulative 3.20 GPA while at Taft College.

2009             Tyler Smith                        Bacone College (OK)
Two-time second team all conference outfielder (2008-2009). A resident of Las Vegas, Tyler tied the most HBP’s record at Taft College with 16 in 2009. Also, stole 24 bases and scored 40 runs in 2009.  Graduated with an accumulative 3.50 GPA from Taft College.

2009             Zach Biehl                          New Mexico State University
A CCC All American after his 2009 season. Led the state in saves (12), appearances (31), opponents batting average (.166), and third in total era (1.41). Also selected as a second team All Pacific Region (California, Oregon, and Washington). He also appeared in 31 games as a reliever in 2008, which also led the state. All of the before-mentioned categories/stats are also Taft College records. Had a grade point average of 3.10 while at Taft College.

2009             Kevin Chapman               University of Texas-Brownsville 
Led the 2009 team with 7 wins and second in appearances with 25 (which was second in the state of California).  Transferred from Whittier College after completing his freshman year of baseball there in 2007. A 2006 graduate of Silverado High School in Henderson, Nevada. Had an accumulative 3.35 GPA at Taft College.

2009             Neynoel Perez                  University of Texas-Brownsville
A two-year starter for the Cougars, started in centerfield in 2008 and played right field and DH in 2009.  Blessed with a lot of skills; good arm, running ability, and hitting. A very good student athlete, had a 3.25 GPA while at Taft College. 2007 graduate of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy High School. 

2009             Wilfredo Rodriguez         York University-Nebraska

A two-year starter for the Cougars who is from Bayamon, Puerto Rico. A very good defensive first baseman who also hit in the middle of the lineup during his sophomore year at TC. His freshman year at Taft College he started at third base for the Cougars. 

2008             Alex Osorio                        West Texas A & M
A starting outfielder and relief pitcher in 2008, a shoulder injury ended his season prematurely.  An outstanding individual and student athlete, who was thought of highly by everyone while at Taft College.  Graduated from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy High School in 2006.

2008          Cory Hall              Santa Clara University/Kansas City Royals

After transferring in to Taft College from Gonzaga University, this Regina, Saskatchewan native put together an outstanding season for the Cougars.  He was a first team all CVC selection and currently holds two Taft College pitching records (5 complete games and 92 strike outs). While at Santa Clara during his senior year, 2011, Cory was selected as an All WCC Pitcher and later signed with the Kansas City Royals as a non-drafted free agent.

2008          K.C. Judge           California Lutheran University
A 2006 Chaparral High School graduate from Las Vegas, Nevada.  K.C. was a 2-year starter for the Cougars.  His freshman year he started at third base and his sophomore started in left field and first base.  An outstanding contact hitter and base runner for the Cougars during his two year at Taft College. K.C. signed an independent league contract for the 2012-2013 year.

 

2007      Alex Lyons      University of San Francisco/Cameron University
The Cougar's starting centerfielder during the 2007 season. Led the team in stolen bases with 31 while hitting .304. The model "student-athlete" while at TC; maintained a 3.80 grade point average while at Taft College. A high school graduate of Timpanogos, Utah in 2005. In 2008 he transferred to Cameron University in Oklahoma.


2007      Daniel Bennett      University of Southern Illinois at Edwardsville
Starting pitcher during the 2007 season for the Cougar's. Led the team in wins (5), innings pitched (88), games started (15), complete games (1), and strike outs (63). A graduate of Klamath Union High School in Klamath Falls, Oregon in 2005.


2007      Chase Blackwood      Valdosta State University (Georgia)/Chicago White Sox
A two-year starter for the Cougars behind the plate. Made the fall California Community College Fall All Star game. Led the team in homeruns (5) in 2007. A graduate of Taft Union High School in 2005. In 2009 Chase signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Chicago White Sox.Chase played professionally until 2011.


2007      Glen Haenelt      New Mexico Highlands University
The Cougars starting first baseman last year after transferring from Allan Hancock College. Led the team in batting (.376) and slugging pct. (.560). A graduate of Liberty High School in Bakersfield, California in 2005.


2007     C.T. Twisselman     York University (Nebraska)
A two-year starter for the Cougars where he played outfield, third base, and second base. Led the team in runs scored, 30 and swiped 20 bases during the 2007 season. A graduate from Taft Union High School in 2005.


2007     Chris Wedel     William-Penn University (Iowa)
A reliever his freshman year at Taft, in 2007 he anchored the pitching staff along with Daniel Bennett. Second on the staff in innings pitched with 76. His older brother Jeremy is the Cougar's pitching coach. A 2003 graduate from Wasco High School in California.
 

2007    Tyson Davis        Utah Valley University 

A two-year starter for the Cougars in 2006-07 playing 3B, SS and 2B. Tyson was 2005 graduate from American Fork High School in Utah.

2006      Josh Herback-South      CSU-Northridge/Colorado State University at Pueblo
A second team all CVC pitcher during the spring of 2006, Josh was in the top-ten in the state in innings pitched (103) and games started (16). His complete game win at Fresno City College in April 2006 was one of the best pitching performances in recent Taft College baseball history. He signed during the early signing period in November 2005. In 2008 Josh transferred to Colorado State University at Pueblo.


2006      Owen Van Noy      College of the Ozarks (Missouri)
A two-year starter for the Cougars at shortstop, he signed during the early signing period in November 2005.


2006      Matt Bezzant      Southern Utah University
A two-year starting catcher. Made the NorCal fall All-Star game in 2005. Lead the Cougars in home runs (8) and rbi (39) his freshman year.


2006      Matt Jankowski      Central Methodist University (Missouri)
A starting pitcher his sophomore year at Taft. Ranked in the top-20 in innings pitched (80) his sophomore season at Taft College.


2006      Jimmy Whitworth      Colorado State University at Pueblo
reserve outfielder his freshman year at Taft College, he became the closer for Taft College his sophomore year. He led the team in saves (5) in 2006.

 

2005     Kyle Kasper     Utah Valley State College 
A starting pitcher for the 2005 Cougar baseball team and a relief pitcher in 2004. A native of Riverton, Utah who excelled on the field and in the classroom while at Taft College. One of the hardest workers to ever wear the "black & gold."


2005     Anthony Reed     Cal State University, Northridge
A 2003 graduate of North High School in Bakersfield, Anthony was a unanimous All-CVC outfielder. He was top five in the state in batting average (.439), on-base pct. (.527), slugging pct. (.748), triples (6), and stolen bases (25 for 25). In 2005 he was an All-American.


2005     Thomas Lees     Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho)
A product of Edmonton, Alberta, Thomas was an honorable mention CVC utility player. Thomas played all 3 outfield positions, first baseball, and pitcher.


2005     Jeff Mason     Wayne State University (Nebraska)
A product of Calgary, Alberta in Canada. Jeff was a starter for the Cougars in left field. He left Taft College after his freshman year to attend Wayne State in Nebraska.

 

2004     Brian Conradi     Sacramento State University
A 2002 graduate of Liberty High School in Bakersfield, Brian was an All-CVC shortstop for the Cougars. Brian led the team in numerous offensive categories.


2004     Brian Hedman     University of Utah
A 2002 graduate of Taylorsville High School in Taylorsville, Utah. He was member of the 2002 Utah 5A state high school championship team. Brian served as a reliever and spot starter for the Cougars during his two years in Taft.


2004     Tyler Wright     BIOLA University
A 2002 graduate of Liberty High School in Bakersfield. He was a 2nd team All-CVC first baseman. Tyler lead the team in batting average and on-base pct. his sophomore season.


2004     Steve Kittrell     Menlo College
A 2002 graduate of Highland High School in Bakersfield. Steve played a number of positions for the Cougars in his two years at Taft College (3B, SS, 2B, & OF).


2004     Kyle Curtis     University of Lethbridge (Alberta, Canada) 
A product of Edmonton, Alberta in Canada. Kyle was a two year starter for the Cougars in right field.

 

2003     Jason Stuart     Friends University (Kansas)
From Port Orchard, Washington, pitched for the Cougars primarily as a  relief pitcher.

A 2000 graduate from Bonanza High School in Las Vegas.   Made the All-CVC as a 3rd baseman his freshman year at Taft. 


2002     Justin Thurman   Friends University (Kansas)
A 2000 graduate from Las Vegas High School.  Played 1st base and DH for the Cougars during his career at Taft College.


2002     Cody Hunter     Friends University (Kansas)
From Salt Lake City, Utah.  Played center field for the Cougars during his two year stint at Taft College.

Here is a short description of Cougar players who signed professional baseball contracts:

Chase Blackwood signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2009 with the Chicago White Sox after playing two years at Valdosta State University. Selected after his junior year (2008) as a "Golden Glove" All American catcher (best D-II defensive catcher). Having just completed his second year in the White Sox organization Chase still resides in Taft and often works out with the Taft College Baseball Team.

Allan Simpson (RHP) Allan was drafted in the 8th round by the Seattle Mariners after his sophomore year at TC (1997). He eventually made it all the way to the major leagues playing for the Seattle Mariners, the Colorado Rockies, and the Cincinnati Reds.

Bob Simonson a 1984 grad of Taft College, was a 2nd round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers. Played professionally for 8 years. A Grand Rapids, Michigan native, he transferred from Oklahoma State University his sophomore year to Taft College in the fall of 1983. Currently lives in Oklahoma City.

David Harriman (2000) A product of British Columbia, Canada. David transferred to Armstrong State in Georgia.  He was drafted by the Oakland A's as a catcher and played three years in the A's organization

Ron Coomer (class of 1986)A high school grad from Chicago, Illinois. Holdsnumerous offensive records at TC. Played in the major leagues with the Minnesota twins, Chicago cubs, new York Yankees, and finished up his career with the LA dodgers. see the article from the local Taft Midway Driller newspaper

Kevin Van DeBrake (Inf)  Signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1990.  From Selah Washington.  

Kevin Johnson (OF)  Signed in 1988 with the Montreal Expos and played two years of  professional baseball.  From San Luis Obispo, California.

Chris Keim (LHP)   Drafted after freshman year at TC (23rd round); signed with the Cincinnati Reds after his sophomore year; played 2 years of professional baseball.  

Ken Harris (OF)   Drafted  by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 15th round after his sophomore year.  Ken played 2 years of professional baseball.  From   Snohomish, Washington.

Agustin Gonzalez   Signed with the Cincinnati Reds after his freshman year at TC (1989).   Played 2 years of professional baseball.  From Orosi, California.

Donny Harrel (C)   Drafted in the 18th round by the Kansas City Royals after his sophomore year at TC (1990).  A shoulder injury ended his career after 2 years.  He is currently the Head Baseball Coach at the Seattle Universtiy.  From North Bend, Oregon.

Jason Kummerfeldt (RHP) Signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 1992 and played 5 years of  professional baseball. From Billings, Montana.

Skye Leibee (LHP)  Drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 27th round after his sophomore year at TC (1992), and played 2 years of professional baseball. From Taft, California.

Jeffrey Newkirk (OF)  Signed a pro contract with the Chicago White Sox and played 2 years of professional baseball.

Mike McDougal (1B/RHP) Drafted in the 31st round by the St. Louis Cardinals after his freshman season at TC (1994) as a 1st baseman. From Las Vegas, Nevada.

Troy Ormonde (RHP)  Drafted in the 29th round by the Chicago Cubs after his freshman season at TC (1994).  He played 2 years of professional baseball.  From Las Vegas, Nevada.

Aaron Hee (LHP)   Drafted in the 50th round by the New York Mets after his sophomore year at  TC (1998).  Played at Pittsfield in the New York-Penn League in 2000.  From Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jerome Robinson, signed as a free agent and played two years in the Cincinnati Reds organization.
