On Saturday, Taft secured the sweep against conference foe, Porterville College by the score of 14-8. The bats were alive throughout the whole game for the Cougars as they mounted 14 runs, on 17 hits. Travis Turner led the way offensively, having a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate, and Richard Ortiz went 2-for-4 with his sixth homerun of the season, and his third homerun in just as many games. Jayce Gardner, Kyle Gaura, Brendan Halstrom, and Nick Kawano all collected 2 hits apiece as well.
Chase Nistor tossed the first 3 innings and allowed 7 hits, and 3 earned runs. Bryan Santiago got the win out of the bullpen, tossing 3 innings and allowing no runs on no hits. Tyson Canfield collected himself a 3 inning save, allowing 1 earned run while striking out 4.
The Cougars are now 10-11-1 overall, and 4-2 in CVC play going into a 3 game series against Merced starting on Tuesday March 21 at 3:00 pm on Cougar field.
