TAFT, CA – On Wednesday, August 23, the Taft College Women's Volleyball team challenged the Cerro Coso College Coyotes. The Cougars hosted the Coyotes in a pre-season scrimmage at the Al Baldock Gymnasium. It was a great opportunity for Cougar fans to get a first glance to see the volleyball team in home action.

Overall, both teams fought long and hard until the very end. Taft College Volleyball Head Coach Mallori Rossi shared her evaluation on the scrimmage, "I was very happy with how we performed in our scrimmage today and I think our entire team gained valuable experience. Playing against someone other than ourselves in practice helps to pinpoint what exactly we need to fine tune.

In practice, we have been focusing a lot on our ball control, as well as our transition offense. We've talked a lot this week about understanding when we want to be aggressive and take some big swings, and knowing when we need to trade an out of system ball for another opportunity to defend and convert. I was very pleased to see big improvements in these areas.

It was great to see everyone on our team on the court at some point throughout the match showcasing all that we had been working on. We showed a lot of heart, resiliency, and competitiveness.

This is a very special group of young women who have come together from all over the country to compete for the Cougars. Their passion combined with great work ethic will be the building blocks of an exciting legacy for Cougar Volleyball.

A huge thank you to those who came out to show their support for the TC women's volleyball team."

Cougar Fans will get a chance to see the women back in action on Tuesday, September 5th returning to the Al Baldock Gymnasium.  The Volleyball team will gear up for doubleheader matches versus both Cuesta College and Los Medanos College. Taft College will be challenging Cuesta College first at 12:00 pm, and Los Medanos to follow at 5:00 pm.

Make sure you bring your energy and that Cougar Pride!
