Barcelona’s big night leads Taft sweep at West Hills Lemoore

Sophomore Madison Barcelona totaled eight kills and six blocks to help lead the Taft College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win at West Hills College Lemoore on Wednesday.

The Cougars swept the Central Valley Conference match by scores of 25-21, 25-10, and 25-22 to snap a five-match losing streak. The victory moved Taft to 3-5 in the CVC and 5-15 overall.

Barcelona hit .318 for the match, committing just one error on 22 attempts. She added two solo blocks (four assisted), four digs, and two aces to her impressive evening on the court.

Lauren Pau-De Santos also played well, contributing eight kills, 19 digs, and two blocks while Keala Skeele added seven kills, two blocks, and two digs to the win.

Christy Hopfe had a big night defensively, leading the Cougars with 27 digs. Taylor Tuliloa directed the offense, posting 28 assists to go along with 11 digs.

The Cougars will look to keep the winning momentum going on Friday (Oct. 18) when they travel to face Fresno City College in a 6 p.m. CVC match.
