Cougars split CVC matches, move to 2-2 in conference play

Week 2 of Central Valley Conference play was a repeat of last week for the Taft College women's volleyball team. Playing a pair of CVC matches, the Cougars came away with a split, falling 3-0 at West Hills College Coalinga on Wednesday before bouncing back with a 3-0 win of their own over visiting Porterville College.

Taft moved to 2-2 in CVC action and is 4-10 overall.

The Cougars couldn't get much going offensively in the 25-7, 25-19, 25-5 loss at West Hills Coalinga. Taft totaled just 10 kills but made 24 attack errors. Lauren Pau-De Santos and Madison Barcelona led TC with four kills each.

Christy Hopfe recorded nine digs and Elisia Brown totaled eight assists.

Taft put together its best match of the season on Friday, cruising to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of Porterville. The Cougars slammed home 38 kills, included 12 each from Pau-De Santos and Jasmine Chipen-li. Barcelona contributed six kills while Keala Skeele chipped in with five kills.

Hopfe totaled 23 digs and Brown paced the offense with 29 assists.

Taft will take a break from conference action to compete at the Cabrillo Classic on Saturday (Sep. 28). The Cougars are set to take on host Cabrillo College and Hartnell College in non-conference matches.
