Hopfe totals career-high 26 digs in 3-1 Taft loss to Cerro Coso

Coming off its first win of the season on Saturday, the Taft College women's volleyball team couldn't keep the momentum going and suffered a 3-1 non-conference match to visiting Cerro Coso College on Wednesday.

Cerro Coso won the match by scores of 25-17, 18-25, 25-17, 25-19 to drop the Cougars to 1-7 overall. Taft had a tough time with the Coyotes' serve, as Cerro Coso totaled 15 aces in the contest.

Sophomore libero Christy Hopfe had a busy time on the back line defensively and posted a career-high 26 digs. Up front, freshman Lauren Pau-De Santos led TC with nine kills and added 12 digs.

Also for the Cougars, sophomore Madison Barcelona had eight kills, sophomore Daniela Flores chipped in with six kills, and freshman Elisia Brown totaled a team-best 29 assists.

Sophomore Keala Skeele had a good all-around match for the Cougars as contributed five kills, five digs, three blocks, and two aces.

Taft returns to action on Friday (Sep. 13) when it will play a pair of matches at Cosumnes River College. The Cougars face Shasta College at 3 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. match against host CRC.
