Taft named No. 10 seed for playoffs, will face No. 7 Las Positas

The run to a state championship officially begins for the Taft College women's soccer team. On Tuesday, the Cougars were named the No. 10 seed for the upcoming 2019 Northern California Regional Playoffs. Taft will travel to face No. 7 seed Las Positas College of Livermore in a first-round playoff game on Saturday (Nov. 23) at 7 p.m.

Saturday's contest marks the first meeting of the season between the two colleges. Las Positas enters the postseason with a 12-5-4 overall record and went unbeaten at 9-0-2 on its way to a Coast Conference North Division championship.

Taft went 5-4-1 in Central Valley Conference play to finish in third place. The Cougars enter the playoffs with a 10-8-3 overall record. Taft is making its third consecutive postseason appearance under head coach Myisha Cutrona.

The winner of Saturday's Round 1 game will advance to play the winner of No. 2 San Joaquin Delta College (20-0-2) or No. 16 Solano College (13-5-3)/No. 17 Reedley (8-8-3) in a second-round contest on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Three wins are needed to advance Taft to the CCCAA Soccer State Championships on Dec. 6 & 8 at DeAnza College in Cupertino.
