Taft routs Sequoias 4-0, suffers 2-0 loss at Clovis

The Taft College women's soccer team split its two Central Valley Conference games during the week, earning a big 4-0 victory at College of the Sequoias on Tuesday before falling 2-0 at Clovis Community College on Friday.

The loss at Clovis was the Cougars' first in conference play and dropped them to 3-1 in the CVC. Taft is 8-5-2 overall as the Cougars return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 29) at 4 p.m. to play at Fresno City College.

Taft rolled to its fourth straight win thanks to the rout at COS. The Cougars led 1-0 after the first half thanks to a goal in the 42nd minute by Justice Rodriguez off the assist from Carla Rodriguez. Taft poured it on in the second as Esmeralda Garcia (52nd minute), Kaitlin Dansie (82nd), and Juliet Garcia Cruz (88th) all scored.

Carla Rodriguez had two assists with Vanessa Aguero and Cassandra Calzada each had one.

Vanessa Casas played all 90 minutes in goal for the Cougars and earned the squad's fifth shutout of the season.

Taft saw its win streak come to an end after the 2-0 loss at Clovis. The Cougars were shutout for just the third time this season.

After a scoreless first half, Clovis got goals in the 58th and 71st minutes to pull out its win.
