Cougars cruise to 2-0 win at Allan Hancock

The Taft College women's soccer team posted its second consecutive shutout after beating Allan Hancock College 2-0 on Friday in a non-conference game in Santa Maria. The victory improved the Cougars to 2-1-1 overall.

Taft outshoot Allan Hancock (0-2-2) by a narrow 13-10 margin in the contest, but finished on its opportunities when it mattered most.

Freshman Justice Rodriguez gave Taft an early lead, scoring in the fifth minute. The Cougars held that 1-0 advantage all the way until the 71st minute when sophomore Carla Rodriguez secured the win with an insurance goal.

"I was excited to get the first goal of my sophomore season," said Rodriguez. "I came into the second half with the mentality that I was going to score and I did just that."

Freshman Vanessa Casas played an excellent game in goal for the Cougars and made four saves in the shutout.

The Cougars return to action next weekend when they will travel north to play a pair of games in Lake Tahoe. Taft faces Lassen Community College on Friday (Sep. 13) at 1 p.m. and will take on Lake Tahoe Community College on Saturday (Sep. 14) at 12 p.m.
