Freshman goalkeeper Vanessa Casas put together another impressive effort, totaling 15 saves for Taft College on Friday. But she couldn't stop all of them in a 3-0 Cougar loss to San Diego Mesa College in Ventura at the New Balance Community College Showcase.
Taft went 0-1-1 at the tourney after playing Orange Coast College to a 2-2 tie on Thursday.
The Cougars have relied heavily on Casas early this season. Her 29 combined saves over two games currently leads the state.
Taft is still in search of its first win and will get its next chance at home on Wednesday (Sep. 4) when the Cougars host former Central Valley Conference foe Cerro Coso College in a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
