Taft’s Irey, Keith wrap up season at State Championships

The 2021 Taft College women's golf season came to a close at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships on Monday. The Cougars were represented by a pair of individuals at the two-day event at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.

Taft sophomore Alyssa Irey shot an opening-round 85 on Sunday and cut off four strokes to shoot 81 in the final round on Monday. She ended in a tie for 21st place with her total of 166.

Freshman Ayla Keith tied for 40th place with her two-round card of 186 as she shot 93 in both the first and second rounds.

The duo qualified for the state championships after strong efforts at the Northern California Regional Championships on Nov. 7-8 at the Yolo Fliers Golf Club in Woodland.

Irey finished fourth overall at the NorCal finals, turning in a card of 89-80---169 while Keith tied for 22nd place after shooting 99-87---186.

Also for the Cougars at the Northern California Championships, Isabell Martinez shot 105-100---205 and Willow Pilgrim shot 111-114---225.
