Lady Cougars Win on the Road against Merced College

TAFT, CA – After losing a close game to Sequoias last week, Taft College needed to get back on the winning track. The Lady Cougars Basketball Team of Taft College made that happen by defeating Merced College on the road 74-51 this past Saturday.

Taft outrebounded Merced 53-36 and outscored the Lady Blue Devils in the paint 48-16. Despite having 20 turnovers, the Cougars calculated a better percentage from the perimeter than Merced, shooting 49% to 22%. Black and Gold also collected 23 assists, while Merced had 11.

Taft College Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. expressed his emotions, "The players showed resiliency tonight, and were able to bounce back and not let prior losses cloud their next focus. It was good to see Brandy Edwards score a season high of 30 points, while other players are improving as well. Our goal is to stay focused and continue to rise to the top."

As mentioned, Brandy Edwards scored a season and game high of 30 points, game high of 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Zamarehia Heaven also tied a game high of 8 rebounds, along with 6 points. Freshman

Mary Pahukoa pumped in a season high of her own with 10 points and collected 6 rebounds.

Taft will be on the road again facing Porterville College in the last match of the first half of conference play. The game will tipoff on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:00 pm.

The Cougars are now 2-3 in conference play with an overall record of 14-7.
