TAFT, CA – In a battle possibly for second place in the conference standings, Taft College came up short losing to College of Sequoias 54-63. In a back-and-forth competition, it was very entertaining with both teams vying for one of the top spots.

Taft caused more turnovers, more deflections, steals, and more points off turnovers. College of Sequoias, however, had more team assists (11-4) and outrebounded the Cougars 47-30.

"It was a great game. It could have gone either way. I was proud of our players giving it their all. We just need to stop opponents having second chance opportunities. Having our fan base grow in the stands was also wonderful to see. We are thankful for our community and campus support," commented Taft Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr.

Brandy Edwards became the team's leading scorer with 13 points, along with 5 rebounds. This would be Edwards 3rd straight game leading the team in points. Celicia Enos came in second with 12 points, and 5 rebounds as well. Seira Bradford scored 10 points.

The next game for Taft College will be on the road to face Merced College for the first time in conference play on Saturday, January 27 at 5:00 pm.

The next home game for the Cougars will be on February 10 against Fresno City College at 3:00 pm.

The Cougars currently have a 13-7 overall record and are 1-3 in the Central Valley Conference.
