TAFT, CA – You have athletes, and you have students. Then, you have your student athletes.

On December 13, 2023, Taft College student-athletes Mary Pahukoa and Alyah Blackwater were recognized by the Bakersfield Jockey Club. Both Mary and Alyah are part of the women's basketball team at Taft College, who were in attendance to accept their award at Hodel's Restaurant in Bakersfield.

Special guest speaker to award the winners was respected local and former Kern County high school volleyball Coach Sue Kenny Flanagan.

Coach Lagmay, along with other athletic coaches, were present to speak on behalf of their student athletes. Mary and Alyah were two of nine student athletes to be recognized for possessing high standards as a student and athlete in Kern County.
