Cougars can’t keep up with No. 11 COS in conference opener

TAFT --- Playing with just five players on its active roster, the Taft College women's basketball did all it could to compete with No. 11 state-ranked College of the Sequoias on Wednesday. The Cougars never quit, but suffered an 89-31 loss to the Giants at home in both teams' Central Valley Conference opener.

Taft fell behind 24-6 after the first quarter and was down 39-11 at halftime.

Bree Johansen led TC with 9 points and 6 rebounds. Precious Ramos had 7 points and 4 rebounds, while Kayla Iwata, Avianna Perez, and Sara Alvarez all scored 5 points each.

The Cougars dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in the CVC. They are scheduled to play a 3 p.m. conference game at Reedley College on Saturday (Jan. 8).
