Taft closes out tournament with win over Hartnell

Freshman guard Sade Romain scored a season-high 24 points to help lead Taft College to a 61-46 win on Friday to close out the Conoco Phillips Cross Crossover Tournament at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. It was the Cougars second win of the season over the Panthers.

Romain sparked Taft off the bench, nailing 5 three-pointers while grabbing 7 rebounds.

The two teams were tied 18-18 after the first quarter before TC went into the break with a 31-27 advantage. The Cougars outscored Hartnell 30-19 over the final two periods to pull out the win.

Taft took advantage of 30 Hartnell turnovers and came away with 20 steals. Mercy Montgomery led TC with 6 steals to go along with 5 points and 5 rebounds while Bree Johansen totaled 5 steals, 8 rebounds, and 6 points.

Precious Ramos contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds and Avianna Perez had 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Taft, now 2-5 overall, returns to action on Wednesday (Dec. 8) when it hosts Chaffey College in a 5 p.m. non-conference game.
