The 2021-22 women's basketball season got off to a rough start for Taft College on Wednesday night. A disappointing second half turned a close game in the first quarter to a 90-33 loss to visiting Mt. San Jacinto College.

After one quarter, the Cougars trailed by just two points, 11-9, to the Eagles. But Mt. San Jacinto went ahead 35-25 at halftime and outscored TC 55-8 over the final two quarters to hand Taft the loss.

Freshman Sade Romain (pictured, right) played well in her collegiate debut. She came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points. She sank 5 of 9 shots, including four from three-point range.

Freshmen Precious Ramos and Sara Alvarez both chipped in with six points each while sophomore Bree Johansen had 7 rebounds to go with 2 points.

Taft (0-1) will look to bounce back on Friday (Nov. 5) when the Cougars travel to Irvine Valley College for a 5 p.m. game.
