Freshman Bree Johansen scored a season-high 13 points while sophomore Mercy Montgomery poured in 12 points for Taft College in an 83-37 loss to visiting College of the Sequoias on Thursday. The contest wrapped up a two-game series between the squads.

The Cougars opened the scoring, getting a jumper from Morgan Pulido to take an early 2-0 lead. But Sequoias responded with a 13-0 run and held a commanding 15-6 advantage after the first quarter.

Taft put up 19 points in the fourth quarter, including nine from Montgomery and eight by Johansen. The duo accounted for 7 of the Cougars 8 three-pointers in the game. Montgomery shot 4 for 11 while Johansen nailed 3 of 8 shots from long distance.
