Following a standout final season with Taft College, sophomore Deja Derrell was named to the All-Central Valley Conference women's basketball team by CVC coaches at their annual postseason meeting on Sunday.

The Colorado Springs, Colo. native out of Sand Creek High School earned All-CVC honorable mention accolades after ranking seventh in the Central Valley Conference with a team-best 13.1 points per game average. Her 3.0 steals per game was second best in the CVC and also led her squad.

Derrell scored in double figures in 14 of 22 games this season, including a career-high 33 points against Los Angeles Harbor College.

Derrell shined in an otherwise difficult season for the Cougars. Taft closed out the schedule last week with a 69-40 loss to West Hills College Lemoore. The Cougars compiled a 4-20 overall record and went 1-11 in CVC play.
