Cougars earn six All-Central Valley Conference awards

Highlighted by first-team selections Alicia Pompa and Emma Silva, six members of the Taft College softball team were honored with 2022 All-Central Valley Conference postseason awards.

Joining Pompa and Silva were All-CVC honorable mention picks Arianna Forthman (First Base), Anne Procell (Middle Infield), Kaylee Beltran (Third Base), and Hailee Danneker (Catcher).

Pompa, TC's starting shortstop, put together an impressive freshman season for the Cougars. On offense, she led Taft with a .400 batting average, 48 hits, 11 doubles, 4 triples, .439 on base percentage, and .583 slugging percentage. She also scored 18 runs, smacked a home run, and totaled 18 RBI.

Silva was the Cougars' No. 1 pitcher on the year, starting 23 of 37 games she appeared in. She compiled a 7-14 overall record with 125 strikeouts over 166.2 innings. Silva tossed 8 complete games and closed with a 4.03 earned run average.

Forthman hit .349 on the season with a team-high 23 RBI. Procell totaled 21 hits with 7 doubles and 14 RBI. Beltran came up with 20 hits, 6 of those doubles, and drove in 9 runs. Danneker was solid on defense for the Cougars and hits .330 30 hits, 3 doubles, 2 triples, and 9 RBI.

Taft wrapped up the season with an 11-26 overall record and finished tied for fourth place in the final Central Valley Conference standings at 5-10 under head coach Gabrielle Brixey.
