Taft drops conference doubleheader to Fresno City

TAFT – Anne Procell and Arianna Forthman both drove in two runs each to lead Taft College at the plate in a pair of Central Valley Conference losses to visiting Fresno City College on Tuesday. The Cougars lost Game 1 to Rams by a final score of 10-2 in six innings and dropped the finale 8-2.

Procell's two-run double to center field in the bottom of the third inning drove in Emma Silva and Emily Bagdanoff to give Taft a 2-0 lead. But FCC responded with five runs in the fourth and blew the game open with a four-run, fourth-inning.

Taft totaled four hits in the opening-game loss. Procell ended 1 for 3 with 2 RBI while Bgdanoff went 1 for 2 with a run and walk.

Silva took the loss after allowing eight runs (three earned) and nine hits over four innings. She struck out five and walked none.

Fresno carried its moment into the second game and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning. Forthman got the Cougars on the board with an RBI-double to right field in the bottom of the third that scored Kiley Lyons.

Forthman closed out Taft's scoring with an RBI-single that drove in Bagdanoff in the fifth. Forthman led TC with her 2 for 3 game at the plate with 2 RBI. Bagdanoff went 1 for 2 with a run and walk.

Alexis Garay earned the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) and seven hits over 2 2/3 innings.

Taft fell to 7-21 overall and 1-7 in Central Valley Conference play. The Cougars return to action on March 31 when they travel to Merced College for a 2 p.m. CVC game.
