Taft offense struggles in doubleheader loses at Fresno City

A rough stretch of the 2019 season for Taft College continued on Tuesday. The Cougars totaled just seven hits over two games and suffered consecutive five-inning losses in a doubleheader at Fresno City College.

Taft recorded four hits in an 11-2 opening-game loss and managed three hits in a 19-2 defeat in the second game.

Fresno City had just four hits as well in Game 1 but was able to take advantage of 13 walks and a pair of wild pitches.

Allie Dobbs hit a double and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Calli Martin in the fourth. Also in the fourth, Beige Renhardt's sac fly drove in Jade Martinez for Taft's other run.

Isabelle Martinez took the loss after allowing five runs and three hits over 2 2/3 innings.

Dobbs took the ball to start for the first time in her Taft career in Game 2. The Rams weren't kind and put up six runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to the big win. Dobbs allowed 10 earned runs and 10 hits over 2 2/3 innings to take the loss.

Victoria Rosales provided the offense for the Cougars in the second game, smashing a two-run home run in the top of the second that scored Morgan Thomas.

The losses dropped Taft to 7-17 overall and 0-6 in Central Valley Conference action. The Cougars will look to snap a 10-game losing streak on Thursday (Mar. 21) at 1 p.m. when they are scheduled to play CVC doubleheader at West Hills College Coalinga.
