Taft College defeated Reedley College on Tuesday to improve to 3-1 in conference play. The game started as a pitching duel with the game being scoreless throughout seven innings. Taft College was able to bust it open in the top of the 8th.
Jaqulyn Martinez started of the 8th inning rally by getting hit by a pitch and advancing to first. Andrea Garner then reached first on a single off a bunt. Then Victoria Ybarra bunted for a sacrifice and reached 1st on an error, which led to bases loaded. Tiana Cantero-Kawelo then flexed her bat and got the first runs across with a grand slam.
Halle Neher was then able to keep the inning going by getting to first off a walk. Kelsey Wilmer then doubled to right center allowing Neher to score. The inning continued with hits by Keana Ratcliff-Hogan, Victoria Ybarra, and Tiana Cantero-Kawelo.
Taft College scored 11 runs in one inning with 6 hits. Andrea Garner pitched the entire game allowing 2 hits on the day while striking out 6. Neher finished 3 for 4 at the plate, Ratcliff- Hogan finished 4-5, and Garner was 2 for 4.
Taft College's will hit the road again to face College of the Sequoias this Thursday at 1pm and 3pm.
