Taft moves to 3-0 with shutout victory at Canyons

Taft College shut out its second opponent in three games, this time blanking College of the Canyons by a final score of 2-0 in Santa Clarita on Tuesday.

Canyons (0-1-1) outshot Taft by a 17-9 margin, but it was the Taft Cougars that was able to capitalize on its opportunities. Freshman Ebubechukwu Ekpemogu gave the Cougars an early lead, scoring in the sixth minute off the assist from sophomore Ernesto Velazquez.

Sophomore Nathan Gutierrez made it a 2-0 Taft lead in the 11th minute and the TC defense played its part to keep Canyons off the board. Sophomore goalkeeper Myron Gregory was also outstanding in goal, posting five saves ti help secure the win.

TC will look to keep its winning streak to open the season going on Wednesday (Sep. 1) when the Cougars travel to Moorpark College for a 4 p.m. non-conference games.
