After a slow start to the season in non-conference play, the Taft College men's soccer team opened the Central Valley Conference schedule on the right foot. The Cougars scored a goal in each half while the defense smothered the College of the Sequoias attack on its way to a 2-0 win in Visalia on Tuesday.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak and improved Taft to 3-5-1 overall and 1-0 in the CVC.

The Cougars wasted little time in taking the leading, getting a goal from Ronaldo Valderrama off the assist from Johan Rodriguez in the third minute. 65 minutes later, Taft sealed the victory thanks to Rodriguez' second assist and the goal from Alejandro Garcia.

Sergio Gonzalez (85 minutes) and Myrton Hankins (5 minutes) combined to post the Cougars' third shutout of the season.

Taft returns to Central Valley Conference action on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at 4 p.m. when it hosts Clovis Community College.
