Taft Scores in the Last Minute to take down the Falcons

The Taft men's soccer team increased their win streak to three games. The Cougars defeated the Folsom Lake Falcons 1-0 with a late goal by Hugo Magana. The Falcons now have an 11-2-2 record and are currently ranked 8th in CCCSIA soccer poll. The Cougars are coming off wins over American River (4-1) and San Bernardino Valley (1-0) and have an overall record of 12-2-1. Taft currently ranks 3rd in the CCCSIA soccer poll behind Cerritos College and Fullerton College.

The match was a battle and was without a goal for the majority of the time. In the last minute of the game Hugo Magana received a pass from Alan Perez and put it into the back of the net. The Cougars fought and played a physical game. Alan Perez summed up the game well, "the game was a battle, I believe Folsom Lake was prepared for a fight, but we kept on going at them until we got the chance to score."

Leopoldo Hernandez had similar thoughts, "we knew this was going to be a tough game…but we had to take advantage of how tough and hard we play together as a team and family". Hugo Magana knows there are bigger and better things to come for the team, "the sky is the limit, we have the best coaching staff we could ask for and we as a whole are transforming into the warriors we need to be."

The Cougars have six regular season games remaining and are back in action on October 23 at West Hills Lemoore College. West Hills Lemoore is 3-7-1 with matches against Folsom Lake and Cosumnes River prior to welcoming Taft to their campus.
