Men's Soccer opens pre-season

2018 Season Preview

The men's soccer team opens their season at home on Tuesday, 8/28/18 at 3:00 p.m., against San Bernardino Valley College. In 2016 the Taft College Men's Soccer team were semifinalist; in 2017, they were finalist.  They are definitely looking to bring home a state championship in 2018.  Last year the team didn't have a lot of depth with 21 freshman that used a portion of the season trying to figure things out.  They were also plagued with injuries forcing key players to sit out during playoffs.   With all the adversities, they still managed to have a successful season.  Now stepping into the 2018 season, the team is comprised of an experienced returning sophomore class with an array of talent.  The coaches have high expectations for Brandon Garcia, the returning, starting goal keeper as well as Clayton Torr and Christian Cabrera who were all instrumental in securing the back line last season and will be even stronger this season.  Also returning is one of the leading goal scorers in the state, Hugo Magana, who ended the season with 17 goals.  With a talented, experienced sophomore class, the freshmen will be pushed into learning how to compete the "Taft College Way".

Kicking off the season will definitely be challenging for the team with the preseason they have lined up, but the key to success will be the team's mentality and consistency.  The coaches know that teams across the state will be gunning for them, but they welcome the competition with open arms.  They know that it will be those top-level opponents that will help mold TC men's soccer team into a team that will strive to live up to every challenge, while helping them build a competitive spirit that will ultimately prepare them to reach the state championship once again.
