TAFT, CA – The Taft College Cougars Men's Golf Team traveled to Fresno, CA this past Monday for their first conference match of the year. The men's team teed off at 12:30 pm at Fort Washington Country Club to kick off their season.

The men were coming off refreshed after their Reedley College scrimmage, and ready to battle it out on the golf course. The weather couldn't have been better, but the long track of Fort Washington is notably a tough course. However, the Cougars held their own finishing in 4th place.

Sophomore Kaleb Dickey had a low round on the day with an 83. "It was good to be back in tournament mode with the guys. I'm happy with the way I hit the ball but struggled rolling it on the greens. It was a good first tournament for everyone to get our feet wet and to know what to expect from now on. I know we aren't satisfied, so we need to keep grinding and keep making progress. Our competitive drive for ourselves and each other will only help us get better, so I'm ready to see some lower scores in the upcoming matches," said Kaleb Dickey. Sophomore Evan Sidhu followed that with an 85.

Coach Brandi Borjon stated, "The guys learned a lot about their game. It's always tough playing a course you've never seen, but we know what to work on and where to go from here. We are going to continue to practice hard this week and get ready for our home match on the 28th of February."

The Cougars have a bit of a break before the next match. Coming off a week like this one, the Cougars are motivated, and excited to sharpen up their game and come off hot in the next one. The team gets better week by week, and the Cougars should be ready to go by their second conference match.
