TAFT, CA – The Taft College Men's Golf Team started off the season with a dual match against Reedley College on Monday, February 5th at Buena Vista Golf Course. With almost 3 weeks worth of practice, the guys were ready to get out there and play competitive golf.

"I was really excited to see how they were going to compete. With all the qualifying rounds they had, I could tell the guys were grinding for the top spots for the dual match," said Taft College Men's Head Golf Coach Brandi Borjon.

Even with the rain and wind affecting the golf course, the men were prepared to take on the day. The Cougars started off well battling against Reedley. Making a lot of pars is what kept them on track. There were a couple of bumpy holes for the Cougars, but they maintained their presence and fought hard. Ultimately, the Reedley Tigers walked away with the win. With the low round of 81, sophomore Carson Funkhouser led the team, followed by a solid round of 82 from freshman Holden Moreno.

"The team is looking good. Everyone really brings out the competitiveness in each other. We just have to find ways to battle back from the big numbers on the scorecard. Golf is not a game of perfection and once they realize that mistakes will happen, I think this team is going to go far," said Borjon.

With a team score of 425, the Cougars are looking to grind this week and make a comeback with our first conference tournament in Fresno next Monday, February 12.
