Chavez ties for 48th place at State Championships

Taft College sophomore Garrison Chavez shot a two-round score of 161 to finish in a tie for 48th place at the 2019 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Men's Golf State Championship on Monday. The event was held at the Silverado Resort & Spa golf course in Napa.

Chavez turned in an 81 card in the morning round and came back in the afternoon to shoot 80 to finish +17 on the par 72 course.

Nobuhiko Wakaari from College of the Canyons shot 73-69­―142 (-2) to earn individual medalist honors. Canyons took the team state title with a score of 734.

Chavez was the lone individual from the Cougars to compete at the season-ending tournament. He qualified for the state championships after finishing tied for ninth place at last week's Northern California Championships.
