TAFT, CA – It was a pleasant day for the Taft College Baseball program this past Saturday, February 25. They not only defeated Porterville College 7-6, but they were presented with an outstanding distinguishment.

Prior to the game, Taft Chamber of Commerce Executive Director and Taft College Trustee Kathy Orrin presented the Cougars Baseball Team with the 2024 Community Service Award.

The plaque recognized the TC Baseball Team for volunteering their time and efforts for the community of Taft. Over the many years, the Taft College Baseball Team has volunteered their time in various projects and services. They have partaken in events such as the Taft Oil Dorado Community in setup and removal of furniture, the cleanup of the Taft Community Garden for the past several spring seasons, raising funds for Sock-Tober, which helps the homeless in Kern County, and assisting in roles with youth sports, such as coaching, officiating, groundskeeping and other related duties. There are other volunteer activities the baseball team has been actively involved in.

Taft College Head Baseball Coach Vince Maiocco praised his program, "We love our Taft community. If there is a community event going on, it is highly likely that the Taft College Baseball Team is behind the scenes making it happen."
