Taft College baseball outfielder Owen Hayes was honored at a ceremony on Wednesday for "Outstanding Heroism & Bravery" by California State Sen. Shannon Grove.
Hayes, who is working as a lifeguard at the Taft Natatorium this summer, was recognized for saving four children from drowning while swimming at the facility. He received a certificate of recognition and was able to take a photo with Grove along with other honorees.
Hayes is set to play his sophomore season with the Cougars next spring (2024) after earning All-Central Valley Conference honors as a freshman. Hayes is originally from Palmer, Alaska.
