Cougars open CVC series at Sequoias with 11-4 loss

VISALIA – Taft College totaled 12 hits but left 12 runners on base in an 11-4 loss at College of the Sequoias on Tuesday in an opening game of a three-game Central Valley Conference series.

Game 2 is set for Thursday (Mar. 10) at Taft with first pitch at 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, Taft had its chances against conference-leading Sequoias but couldn't come through with the big hit when it needed it most.

The game was tied at 3-3 after three innings before the Giants put the game out of reach by scoring three times in the fourth, once in the fifth, and four times in the sixth.

Genta Yamazaki went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with a walk, RBI, and run. Tyren Dorrance had a 3 for 4 effort with a double and a run scored while Tyler Vanneste (2 for 5) and Nate Gutierrez (2 for 4) both had two hits each and an RBI.

Gavyn Siefert took the loss for Taft as he allowed three runs (1 earned) and three hits over an inning. Casey Henderson and Fabian Perez closed out the contest with scoreless innings of relief.

The loss dropped the Cougars to 6-12 overall and 2-5 in Central Valley Conference play.
