Logan, DeLeon homer in loss to Sequoias

Shortstop Blake Logan had three hits, including a home run and a double, to lead Taft College at the plate in a 14-2 Central Valley Conference loss to visiting College of the Sequoias on Wednesday.

A day after holding COS to just two runs, Taft couldn't repeat the magic as the Giants jumped on Cougars' starter Luis DeLeon for  three runs in the top of the first before blowing the game open with a five-run, third-inning.

Logan's one-out, solo blast in the second inning got Taft on the board and cut Sequoias' lead to 3-1.

Trailing 11-1 in the fourth, Julian DeLeon hit his second home run of the season. Logan followed with a one-out double but was left stranded on base. Taft totaled nine hits in the contest but left 10 runners on.

Luis DeLeon took the loss after allowing seven earned runs and five hits over three innings. He struck out two and walked three. Taft got scoreless innings of relief from Genta Yamazaki and Gavyn Siefert.

The Cougars fell to 1-21 overall and 1-17 in conference play. They return to action on Saturday (May 22) with a CVC doubleheader at Fresno City College. Game 1 is set for 3 p.m.
