Cougars unable to snap losing streak, fall to Fresno City

It was another rough game for the Taft College baseball team. The Cougars totaled just three hits in a 17-1 Central Valley Conference loss to visiting Fresno City College on Wednesday.

The Cougars had their chances to score but couldn't capitalize as they left 10 runners on base.  Izzy Halton had two of those hits, including a two-out triple in the bottom of the fifth. But he was left stranded on base after a line out to end the inning.

Taft scored its lone run in the eighth. Trailing 17-0, the Cougars didn't give up. Chris Ortega hit a two-out, RBI-single that drove in Andres Garza.

Taft starter Julian DeLeon took the loss after allowing two earned runs and four hits over three innings. He struck out four and walked one. R.J. Munoz was the lone TC pitcher not to surrender a run. He tossed a scoreless ninth inning, striking out a pair.

The Cougars lost their ninth game in a row to fall to 1-14 overall and 1-11 in the CVC. They return to action on Friday (May 7) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Reedley College.
