Cougars drop doubleheader to Fresno City

The rough start to the 2021 season continued for the Taft College baseball team. On Friday, the Cougars lost both games of a Central Valley Conference doubleheader to the visiting Fresno City College Rams, falling by scores of 10-0 and 11-1.

Since scoring four runs in its season opener, the Taft offense has been kept under control. TC totaled just five hits over the two contests against the Rams.

Big innings have also hurt the pitching staff. Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning of the opener, Fresno City exploded for eight runs to put the game out of reach. FCC added another eight-run outburst in the third inning of Game 2.

But the Cougars got some good individual outings on the mound. Blake Logan tossed a pair of shutout innings to close out Game 1 while Alex Hunter restored order in Game 2 with 2 1/3 hitless innings with four strike outs. And Luis DeLeon closed out the second game with two shutout innings as well.

The losses dropped Taft to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the CVC. The Cougars look to snap its losing streak on Tuesday (April 20) when they host Reedley College in the first game of a two-game conference series. The two squads face off again on Wednesday (April 21) in Reedley. Both game are set for 2 p.m. first pitch.
